Our Founder, Noel Buxton, set up this Trust in 1919.

He was the great grandson of the anti-slavery campaigner, Sir Thomas Fowell Buxton. Noel Buxton was inspired by Sir Thomas Fowell Buxton's commitment to 'a worldwide view of human welfare', and resolved to promote this ideal through philanthropic action and political reform.

Our Priorities

The Trust has long supported charities working in Africa and  charities working with families and with prisoners in Britain. We have guidelines that set out how we support work in these fields today.  Please read our guidelines carefully to decide if your appeal will fall into the categories of what we fund.

Our Board

Our Board comprises seven Trustees:   Emma Compton-Burnett (Chairman), Tahera Aanchawan, James Buckley, Katie Aston OBE, Katie Buxton, Simon Buxton, Sir Brendan Gormley KCMG and Jo Tunnard (Vice Chair).  The Manager is Anne Murray.

Our Commitment to Good Practice

The Trustees follow best practice in governance as recommended in Charity Commission guidance.  Accordingly, Trustees have adopted policies relevant to the Trusts areas of focus including guidance on investment, trustee recruitment, risk mitigation and management of any arising conflicts of interest.
